    Pink Ricebowl

    2005-03-22

my yayang and i have been going out watching movies quite a bit lately.. no complaints whatsoever of course but i have to say that on either monday or tuesday last week we went to go watch yasmin ahmad's move- sepet..

it was the best ever!! the best local film that i've seen since p. ramlee and all those other black and white films of yestercentury..

unlike the local movies one would find today, sepet has a twist to it that most would deem as a tabboo in our so-called 'melting-pot' of a country. a chinese boy and malay girl fall deeply in love with each other.. he dies in the end of course maybe to put aside any qualms or to be able to push aside anybody (which is actually most people) who seem to have a problem with races mixing..

    sepet

the movie was absolutely hilarious at most parts.. while yayang and i were watching it there were points in the film where we nearly fell off our seats.. harith, adibah and ida did a fantabulous job with their roles.. i've always known aunty adibah to be a perky and very entertaining person but she really did manage to shine in the film. another thing that really tickled me and that i found really touching is that in the movie all three languages (english, malay, cantonese)were spoken simultaneously.. it could get confusing at times; maybe for someone who isn't used to how we normally speak here.. but ultimately, i feel that the movie was produced to tell us malaysians a story..

one of the parts in the movie i like the most was where orked made a statement of how falling in love with someone of another race is not a problem but it's when you start hating them that's the problem.. although i am a malay girl who grew up here in kl; when i look at farhaan i don't think he's going out with a malay.. he's going out with a filipino. i grew up with only my mom so how could one blame me for being a little different.

there was of course a tear-jerking scene in the film where orked calls jason and starts to baby talk him. that part really reminded me of how farhaan and i talk to and address each other.. what i liked the most about the movie is how real everything seemed.. real yet surreal.. i know it doesn't make much sense but one would have to watch the movie to know what i'm talking about..

moving on, i also watched robots which was also really fun. watched the film with non other than my beloved squishy of course.. when the both of us first stepped into the cinema we were taken aback as the cinema was overflowing with throngs of children but it didn't stop us from having a good time and leaving with stitches!!

last night, maria dropped me off at the bangsar lrt station as i wanted to attempt cutting costs on having to travel back to ampang.. on the train, i met a very interesting couple.. despite how the three of us were born and bred here in malaysia we agreed that there were many things here that we just couldn't come to terms with. my mother is a foreigner so i've had to see the things that go on behind that false facade of local hospitality- this is just my opinion.. i don't care what anyone else thinks..they were an elderly couple and for their own reasons they migrated elsewhere.. now they're in sydney and good on them! i wish them the very best of luck and maybe.. just maybe i'll see them again one day. you never know.

however, farhaan picked me up from the station... i've missed him so.. didn't get to see him the entire weekend. he stayed over till quite late and i was quite pleased actually.. we had a little heart-to-heart.. something which we haven't had in some time. i love farhaan and i'm happy being with him.. however, upon receiving some news, i became rather distraught but very proud and happy for him.. i'll let you all know when the time is right but for now i'll be caught up in my little bubble of glee..
